Outer & Inner Self

Anna

In the Destiny Matrix, the inner and outer selves describe two different sides of your personality. Your inner self reveals what you are like when you can be completely yourself. Your outer self, on the other hand, describes how others see you and the first impression you make.

The yellow number in the center of the Matrix represents your inner self. It describes the character traits that usually come through most clearly in close relationships. Your family, partner, or close friends may know this side of you much better than others do. Your inner self is also connected to your comfort zone. It shows what kind of energy feels natural to you and what gives you strength when life becomes overwhelming or you feel you have lost your direction. Return to the energy of your inner self when you feel you no longer recognize yourself. It can offer clues about which activities, environments, or ways of acting can help you reconnect with yourself. Not all numbers are mathematically possible for the inner self. The numbers 1, 2, 15, 17, 19, and 21 cannot appear in the yellow area at the center.

The purple number on the left side of the Matrix represents your outer self. It is also called your personal calling card. It describes how you appear to the outside world and the impression others may get of you. Your outer self is reflected in your presence, behavior, way of speaking, and how you act in different situations. Of course, it does not reveal your entire personality, but this is often the side others notice first. Any number from 1 to 22 can appear in the outer-self area because this position is determined by your day of birth. For example, if you were born on the 7th day of the month, your outer-self number is 7. If your birthday is the 25th, the number is reduced by adding the digits: 2 + 5 = 7.

Your inner and outer selves do not always look the same. You may appear calm, thoughtful, or reserved on the outside, even though you are much more open, active, or emotional in close relationships. Someone may seem strong and independent outwardly, while needing a great deal of security, support, and acceptance in close relationships. That is why a first impression does not always reveal much about what someone is like as you get to know them more deeply.

The energies in the Destiny Matrix always have two sides: a positive and a negative one. When balanced, an energy appears as strengths, natural behavior, and positive qualities. When out of balance, the same energy may become excessive, remain too weak, or turn against you. A number alone therefore does not tell the whole story. You must also consider how that energy appears in your life. For example, your outer self may give the impression that you are warm, confident, and approachable. When out of balance, the same energy may appear as attention-seeking, arrogance, or a constant need for approval. Another energy may look calm and thoughtful when balanced. When out of balance, that same presence may seem closed-off, cold, or difficult to approach.

Birthdays are a fun way to practice this. Once you become familiar with the energies of numbers 1–22, you can begin considering what kind of outer energy a new acquaintance may have based on their birthday. You can also test this with people you have known for a long time. Does the energy of their birthday match the impression you have formed of them? Does the energy appear more balanced or out of balance? The point is not to put anyone in a box based on a single number. The outer self is only one small part of the entire Matrix. This is still a fun way to learn to recognize different energies in practice. Once you start observing them around you, their meanings also become much easier to remember.

The Destiny Matrix uses energies 1–22. If you are already familiar with the energies of the Tarot’s Major Arcana, remembering them becomes much easier. Each number has its own theme, strengths, and out-of-balance side. Once you learn the basic meanings, you will begin to notice them in people’s behavior, presence, and way of acting as well. General descriptions of all energies from numbers 1–22 can be found in this blog.
